McCann Associates Teams Up with the Toyota Car Control Challenge™ to Enforce Safe Driving by Teens

May 13, 2008

Students in Cincinnati and Kentucky will submit essays on the importance of responsible driving to be scored with McCann Associates’ Measured Success, and compete for a $10,000 college scholarship

Newtown, Pa., May 13, 2008 –

McCann Associates today announced its partnership with the Toyota Car Control Challenge™, a contest in which young drivers are tested on three facets of safe driving-attitudes, knowledge, and car control skills-for the chance to win a $10,000 scholarship and a 2008 Toyota. McCann Associates will contribute its assessment scoring program, Measured Success™, to score essays about positive attitudes towards responsible driving submitted by participants. The contest is part of a local Toyota initiative to enforce crash avoidance skills and safety behind the wheel in new drivers.

The program, started by the New Driver Car Control Clinic and the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Toyota Dealers Group, is aimed at local drivers between ages 16 and 19. The program is also being supported by the Cincinnati Teen Drivers Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

“We have long searched for a way to reward young drivers who stand out from their peers in their awareness of the responsibility that comes with the privilege of driving,” says David Thompson, Founder and President of New Driver Car Control Clinic. “This collaboration between New Driver Car Control Clinics, Toyota, and McCann Associates will do just that. This is an opportunity to focus on and reward the good behaviors of crash-free drivers who deserve recognition, but are never the ones to make the headlines.”

Bryan Blavatt, Superintendent of Boone County Schools in Kentucky and an advocate of safe driving education adds: “Student safety is a major concern for our faculty and staff. I’m glad to see that Toyota is not only recognizing the students who understand the importance of safe driving, but is also bringing education into the equation. Incorporating McCann Associates’ Measured Success program brings even greater value to an already indispensable program for local youth.”

Measured Success™ is an online assessment scoring program. It incorporates innovative software components, including IntelliMetric®, acknowledged by industry experts as the gold-standard in automated essay scoring. The program will score the 700-800 word essays submitted by contest participants.

Awards will be made in four young driver categories: boys aged 16-17, girls aged 16-17, boys aged 18-19, girls aged 18-19. There will also be a Mom, Dad, and Grand Champion. In addition, there will be an intramural championship between high schools in four Tri-State divisions, including Eastern, Western, Northern Hills of Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky.
