We have led the industry in computer-based testing by producing innovation after innovation, pushing the industry in positive directions – with automated essay scoring, automated constructive response scoring, new and innovative item types, systems and network design, simultaneous user capacity, and many more inventive formulations to produce the best experience for users and usable results and statistics for stakeholders.
We are part of the Vantage Labs group of companies, some of our key staff members work across divisions.

Mark Shay, President

Mark joined McCann in 2018 to expand McCann’s historic place in the market and to leverage the shifts that technology is bringing to today’s assessment and learning environment.  As a business leader with a long history of success helping higher education institutions recruit, retain and better serve students.  He is known throughout the higher education industry as an innovator for developing products like and, creating international student recruiting solutions for agents and universities, and his consulting expertise in areas of sales and marketing.  His hands-on approach is bringing Vantage Labs powerful portfolio of patents and Intellectual Property to clients ranging from universities, colleges, public safety agencies and professional associations.  Follow Mark Shay on Twitter

Brian Schweitzer, Senior Account Executive

With over ten years’ experience, Brian serves the Public Safety sector with personnel testing services.  Whether helping agencies understand best practice in their entrance examinations, developing effective custom tests for promotion or assembling and coordinating Oral Review Boards, Brian is known for his candor, professionalism, and “can do” attitude.   Brian is the central figure behind McCann’s stellar reputation in the service to public safety agencies.

Chad Warner, Account Representative

Chad has worked with colleges and universities across the country on their placement testing needs and innovative ways to improve the outcomes for students who fall below cut scores.  Chad has been a key contributor to the success of Florida’s Post-Secondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) and efforts by members of the Florida College System improving their remedial and developmental education programs.   Chad also is instrumental in helping colleges and universities implement writing improvement solutions and adaptive learning systems.

Marq Hill, Account Representative

Marq supports clients in Higher Education who utilize McCann’s Standard Placement Tests and in supporting the work that testing centers undertake in their efforts to reduce paper and pencil testing and bring more advanced products to the practice of examination and assessment.

 Elena Cupingood, VP of Operations

Ms. Cupingood brings over twenty years of education, technology, and business experience to this project and leads our Operations division.  As such, Ms. Cupingood is focused on operational excellence, process improvement, and customer success and satisfaction.  McCann’s customer support team, test development, and implementation teams report to Ms. Cupingood.  Prior to joining McCann, Ms. Cupingood was instrumental at The School District of Philadelphia where she worked on various strategic projects aimed at simplifying processes that resulted in significant efficiency gains and cost savings.  Ms. Cupingood is a 2006 graduate of The Broad Foundation’s highly selective Broad Residency in Urban Education.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Business Analysis from Pennsylvania State University and her MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.


James Lehman, Ph.D., VP of Test Development & Psychometrics

With over 25 years of experience in educational, training, and certification related assessment, Dr. Lehman has years of experience as a Psychometrician and test developer in both for-profit and non-profit settings. He has had a psychometric leadership role in McCann’s large-scale state contracts with Florida and Virginia. He helps equate the results of admissions and placement tests for clients of McCann’s CollegeSuccess and regularly looks at test performance to assure they meet the company’s Quality Control guidelines.  Dr. Lehman is on a task force for an innovative adaptive learning option for one the nation’s largest community college systems.  As the overseer of test integrity, he takes pride in being able to communicate technical information to a lay audience.  His leadership in assessment design and implementation in a wide range of contexts enables him to view complex problems from variety of perspectives to achieve project goals.

Brian Maguire, V.P. of Systems and Development

Mr. Maguire oversees our hardware and software engineers that develop and support the Vantage Platform to accommodate the specific requirements of our clients. Two products engineered by Mr. Maguire and his team, Leaning Access! and My Access!, have been awarded the Software and Information Industry Association CODiE Award finalist status two years running and Learning Access! was awarded the highest evaluation given by District Administration magazine’s editorial staff.  Mr. Maguire has over twenty years of experience invested in the research, development and distribution of IntelliMetric.  Prior to joining Vantage, Mr. Maguire was senior software manager for a $6 billion telecommunications company’s education unit.


Lorna Maguire, M.ED, VP of Product Management

Ms. Maguire has over twenty-five years of experience in leading the design and release of web-based educational products used by hundreds of schools and millions of students. Products include MY Access® (, recipient of two CODIE awards, The Student Progress Monitoring System® (SPMS), a Web-based assessment and intervention platform( (, CollegeSucces, diagnostic and placement platform, and Adaptera™ the only “cloud-based” application of its kind, to manage adaptive course content delivery and new types of performance-based assessments designed to measure an individual’s critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and their ability to communicate. Adaptera offers a broad set of intelligent adaptive assessment, content, analytics, and psychometric services that help organizations move faster, lower operational costs, and scale applications.


Matt Daneker, Senior Product Manager

Matt has more than 10 years of experience in developing and managing products and programs for McCann. He works directly with development teams to ensure that the design, development, and deployment of sophisticated technologies are intuitive, built to specification, and integrated seamlessly into the McCann suite of products, including College Success. Matt’s design portfolio extends across online testing, secure testing environments, scanning solutions, SSO, API, and reporting. His knowledge and insight into organizational abilities allow McCann to leverage the many artificial intelligence, data modeling, and adaptive and linguistic engines that are integrated into College Success. Matt earned an MBA from DeSales University.
